Quarter 1, Week 2 (8/19/24-8/23/24)

Art

Hibler: Art K-3

  • Kinder Art will review procedures: line up, set up, clean up then learn about different types of lines.
  • 1, 2, 3rd grade will review the Elements of Art then begin their designs of take-home folders using their recent review.

Welch: Art 3-6

  • All students will be working on designing and illustrating their class portfolios.

Drama

Lucero: Drama 6

  • Students will learn introductory concepts including drama vocabulary.

Languages

Puopolo: Spanish K-2

  • Kinder, First and Second Grade - Students greet others and say goodbye

Lee: Latin 3-6

  • 3rd & 4th grades
    • Review vocabulary and procedures from week 1
    • Learn Latin alphabet song
    • Learn how to ask "How are you doing?" and to respond in Latin
  • 5th and 6th grades
    • Review vocabulary and procedures from week 1
    • Learn Latin alphabet song
    • Begin inductively learning vocabulary for Lingua Latina chapter 1
    • Make first set of flashcards

We will roll out vocabulary practice logs in week 3, so there is no official homework, yet. However, take some time to chat with your scholars about Latin and ask them to teach you what they learned. Docendo discimus - We learn by teaching.

Music

Abrego: Music K-2

  • Kindergarten will develop tuneful singing, beat skills, listening skills, and learn song repertoire.
  • 1st grade will practice performing fast and slow tempos and review high and low melody.
  • 2nd grade will review reading and writing rhythmic notation and practice using the hand sign for the solfege la.

Balmer: Music 3-6

  • 3rd Grade
    • will perform the Pentatonic Scale from memory with hand signs in small groups.
    • will review meter, measures, bar lines, and time signatures.
    • will experience the String Family through viewing, listening, and discussion.
  • 4th Grade
    • will perform the Pentatonic scale from memory with hand signs in small groups.
    • will review notes of the Treble Clef.
    • will explore the life and times of J.S. Bach
  • 5th Grade
    • will perform the natural minor scale from memory with hand signs in small groups.
    • will review note and rest values including dotted notes and syncopations.
    • will explore music of the Renaissance Era.
  • 6th Grade
    • will perform the major scale from memory with hand signs in small groups.
    • will identify and name parts of the Grand Staff.
    • will explore and experience the Instruments of the Orchestra.

PE

Walsh: PE K-3

  • Kindergarten
    • demonstrate space awareness, effort, and locomotor movements through movements with their scarves.
  • First Grade-Third Grade
    • will demonstrate locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative skills in personal and general space
    • will participate in team building activities to strategize and communicate with classmates.

Woods: PE 3-6

  • The students will learn the basic skills and concepts to play flag football. Skills will include running with the football as well as throwing and consistent catching.
  • Handle the ball without dropping – ball security, no fumbles.
  • Defense needs to find proper angle of pursuit and pull flags.
  • Offense needs to find the edge or time the cut back (juke).
  • Throwing properly – lateral stance, stepping with the opposite foot
  • Timing the pass – leading the receiver.
