Quarter 3, Week 2 (1/16-1/19)

Mrs. Balmer (Music: 3-5)

This week in music all classes will begin working on their first selections for the Spring Concert which is May 3rd (I put the incorrect date in last week’s post). We will also be reviewing “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” for the program finale. Students will continue to work on new rhythm patterns and counting systems. We are also continuing to focus on singing technique and tone. It promises to be a busy week!

Miss Hibler (Art: K-2, 3A&B)

K: Kindergartners will be introduced to still life art with Paul Cezanne’s work highlighted. 

1: Artists will finish their still life collages and begin a sketch. 

2: Second graders will begin practicing forms and shading/ blending techniques with colored pencils. 

3: Students will be drawing their choice of bird (Warbler/ Cardinal) as a replica of John James Audubon’s work.

Mr. Lucero is excited to be taking over Drama for the second semester. 6A and 6B are taking Drama this semester, culminating in performances of a Shakespeare play.

This week we finish reading Minimus chapter 5 ("Romans and Britons") and learn about adverbs. We have a new practice log (due 1/31 for B and D sections, 2/1 for A and C sections) and a new vocabulary list (we'll make flashcards on Wednesday/Thursday).

This week we continue reading through chapter 4 of Cambridge Latin Course and review how to conjugate verbs in the present tense. We have a new practice log (due 1/31 for B and D sections, 2/1 for A and C sections). For now we're still focusing on chapter 4 vocabulary (lists were given out during Q2), so no new flashcards are necessary.

Kinder: Students will be able to: Name clothes and colors, describe what they do when shopping for clothes, Identify vowels at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of the words.  

First: Students will be able to: Identify clothing for daily wear and special events in other cultures and their own, identify articles of clothing and describe articles of clothing using adjectives for color. 

Second: The students will be able to describe people’s personality using SER (to be) and describe people, places, and things.

-Learn to internalize rhythm through kinesthetic activities.

1st Grade

2nd Grade: 
-Practice writing melodies with four sixteenth notes.
-Analyze repertoire with the do pentatonic scale.

6th Grade
-Review classroom policies and procedures. 
-Be assessed on names of lines and spaces on the grand staff. 
-Perform rhythms containing quarter notes, quarter rests, eighth note pairs, and whole notes in 4/4 time signature.

K-3 scholars will be working on teamwork and strategizing skills together. They will be applying their overhand and underhand throwing techniques to engage in a team throwing game.

3rd: The students will draw a landscape.

4th: The students will learn how to shade an apple.

5th: The students will continue to draw and paint drawing Georgia O’Keefe’s Red Poppy Painting.

6th:  The students will continue to draw and shade major project of drawing and shading chosen master sketch.

This week 3rd-5th will be doing basketball and 6th graders will be practicing Virginia Reel line dance.
