Quarter 2, Week 3 (10/28/24 - 11/1/24)

Art

Hibler: Art K-3

  • Kinder artists will learn about dark and light shades and contrast.  
  • 1st grade will explore texture and practice watercolor techniques. 
  • 2nd grade will study Henri Matisse's still life paintings. 
  • 3rd grade artists will complete their replica sketch of John James Audubon's Common Troupial and begin practicing color blending. 

Welch: Art 3-6

  • 3rd Grade: Students will begin their Matisse/color unit.
  • 4th Grade: Students will complete their Blue Horse paintings.
  • 5th Grade: Students will continue on Durer's Rhino.
  • 6th Grade: Students will be working on shading a picture of a vase.

Drama

Lucero: Drama 6

  • Blocking and rehearsal of As You Like It
  • Quiz over Acts 3-5 (6C: Thursday 10/31, 6D: Friday 11/1)

Languages

Puopolo: Spanish K-2

KINDER, FIRST AND SECOND GRADE

  • The students will identify the name of the holiday El Día De Los Muertos, understand that it is a time to remember deceased loved ones, and identify typical decorations, such as tissue paper flowers and sugar skulls. They will also understand the relationship between the practices, products, and the perspective of Mexican culture. 

Lee : Latin 3-6

  • 3rd and 4th grades will
    • learn and practice the "Cincinnatus" song
    • learn about modern and ancient geography in Latin
  • 5th and 6th grades will
    • read Lingua Latina chapter 2 through line 53
    • learn about the genitive case meaning and forms (1st and 2nd declensions)
    • learn about the many forms of quis/quae/quid (=who/what)

Music

Abrego: Music K-2

  • Kindergarten
    • The students will practice high and low voice in known classroom songs.
    • The students will practice lining up in concert order. The students will discuss concert expectations and rehearse all concert songs.
  • First Grade
    • The students will learn to internalize quarter rest through kinesthetic activities. Ss will practice reading “so-mi.”
    • The students will learn to analyze repertoire that contains a beat with no sound.
  • Second Grade
    • The students will learn to create a visual representation of re, a pitch between mi and do.
    • The students will practice writing rhythms containing quarter notes, eighth notes, and half notes using known songs.
    • The students will learn to label a pitch between me and do as re with solfege syllables and hand signs.

Physical Education

Walsh: PE K-3

  • Kinder through Third Grade Scholars will learn:
    • how to work together as a team and how to demonstrate good sportsmanship.
    • how to communicate and cheer on their classmates as they prepare for Field Day! 
    • Athletic Field Day (Grades 1st & 2nd) will be November 6th!
    • Athletic Field Day (Grades 3rd & 4th in the morning; Kinder in the afternoon) will be November 7th! 

Woods: PE 3-6

  • Football Toss- Field Day Prep
  • Objective: To throw all the footballs through the hoop as fast as possible - timed 
  • 4x100 relay practice - Field Day Prep
  • The 4x100 meter relay exchange is one of the most critical and methodical aspects of the relay event. The overarching goal is to exchange the baton from the incoming runner to the outgoing runner without changing speed or slowing down.
