Quarter 2, Week 2 (10/21/24 - 10/25/24)

Art

Hibler: Art K-3

  • Kinder artists will create fall leaves and watercolor on top of crayons to see wax-resist. 
  • 1st grade will work on using simple lines and shapes to create buildings. 
  • 2nd grade will study work by Vincent van Gogh and recreate a sketch of Sunflowers. 
  • 3rd grade artists will complete their replica sketch of John James Audubon's Common Troupial.

Welch: Art 3-6

  • 3rd grade will continue to color their Audubon Troupial bird.
  • 4th grade will continue to color and paint their Blue Horse.
  • 5th grade will continue to work on the patterns and texture of their rhino.
  • 6th grade will be learning some shadowing techniques.

Drama

Lucero: Drama 6

  • Table read of As You Like It
  • Review of the parts of a stage

Languages

Puopolo: Spanish K-2

  • Kinder
    • Students will identify singular and plural school supplies and provide information about how they are used by visualizing and interpreting pages 100 and 101 in the textbook through participation during question time. 
  • First Grade
    • Students will learn and identify different school yard games in Chile and in their own school by using the textbook and workbook to visualize and visually identify the context in which they are said. 
  • Second Grade
    • The students will continue learning about the days of the week and the activities they do during the day.  They will also write sentences using the verb IR. 

Lee : Latin 3-6

All grades will receive their Q2 practice logs this week. These are due 12/4 (A&C classes) and 12/5 (B&D classes).

  • Third Grade will:
    • review the "How Many" chant
    • learn new verbs of motion
  • Fourth Grade will:
    • review how to decline a noun
    • learn words for this thing (hoc), pen, book, and bag; etiam as "yes indeed"
    • learn world geography in Latin
    • learn sentences with "in"
  • Fifth and Sixth Grades will:
    • begin reading Lingua Latina chapter 2
    • learn vocabulary for different kinds of humans and family members
    • begin learning/reviewing the genitive case

Music

Abrego: Music K-2

  • Kindergarten will develop tuneful singing, beat skills, listening skills, and learn song repertoire.
  • 1st grade will practice performing fast and slow tempos and review high and low melody.
  • 2nd grade will review reading and writing rhythmic notation and practice using the hand sign for the solfege la.

Balmer: Music 3-6

  • 3rd grade will
    • understand the function of the tie and the slur
    • review all note and rest values up to 16th notes
    • explore the life and times of G. F. Handel
    • continue preparations for the Winter Concert on November 22, 2024
    • Winter Concert Rehearsal Tracks for students
    • Winter Concert Letter for parents
  • 4th grade will

    • discover and perform interval patterns of the major and minor scales
    • explore the life and times of Frederic Chopin
    • develop aural skills through melodic dictation

Physical Education

Walsh: PE K-3

  • Kinder through Third Grade Scholars will learn:
    • how to work together as a team and how to demonstrate good sportsmanship.
    • how to communicate and cheer on their classmates as they prepare for Field Day! 
  • Athletic Field Day (Grades 1st & 2nd) will be November 6th!
  • Athletic Field Day (3-4 in the morning) and Kinder (in the afternoon) will be November 7th

Woods: PE 3-6

  • Arkenstone Carry- Field Day Prep
    • Objective: Fastest time for entire class to move all balls to the other side of the playing field. 
  • Baggin In - Sack Race - Field Day Prep
    • Objective: Players should put both feet in their sack and, when the race starts, hop toward the finish line as quickly as possible. The contest is won by the first group to reach the finish
  • Path Through Moria- Field Day Prep
    • Objective: Class will attempt to get every person across the platforms within falling into the “darkness” (grass) and safely building a “shelter” (hoop hut).
