Quarter 2, Week 6 (11/18/24 - 11/22/24)

Summary

***The most significant event this week is the Winter Concert on Friday. You should have received communication about this. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Balmer or Ms. Abrego.***

Art

Hibler: Art K-3

  • Kinder: Students will learn about values and study how to draw trees.   
  • 1st: Students will learn about facial features and how to draw them onto a face with accurate proportion.
  • 2nd: Students will begin adding color to Matisse's Still Life of Peonies in a Vase with tempera paints. 
  • 3rd: Students will rehearse for their Winter Concert- no 3rd A/B art.  

Welch: Art 3-6

  • 3rd Grade: Students will begin a new project on Matisse's Goldfish painting.
  • 4th Grade: Students will learn some colored pencil techniques.
  • 5th Grade: In honor of the book, The Secret Garden, students who have completed Durer's Rhino will be learning how to draw a shade a rose.
  • 6th Grade: Students will continue working on their shading the masters project.

Drama

Languages

Puopolo: Spanish K-2

  • Kinder
    • Students will learn the names of the family members and introduce them by observing, visualizing, and interpreting pages 20-21 in the textbook.  
  • First Grade
    • Students will identify syllables and words with l (ele), m (eme), and p (pe). They will continue learning how to form syllables by observing, visualizing, and interpreting examples written on the whiteboard. 
  • Second Grade
    • Students will finish writing their weekly calendar and they will present it to the class. They will be able to practice their speaking and reading skills in Spanish.

Lee : Latin 3-6

  • 3rd and 4th
    • Students will continue practicing and learning Roman numbers up through 100.
  • 5th and 6th
    • Students will practice writing Latin and using the genitive case.

Music

Abrego: Music K-2

Physical Education

Walsh: PE K-3

  • Kindergarten through Second Grade will learn: 
    • how to work together as a team and how to demonstrate good sportsmanship as they practice various sports skills and work on lead up soccer games. 
  • Third Grade will be busy at music rehearsals for the Winter Concert 

Woods: PE 3-6

  • Tic-Tac-Toe Relay- 
    • Set up three tic-tac-toes on the other end of the basketball court.
    • Split students up into six squads and assign them to a tall cone at the starting line.
    • Squads next to each other will compete head-to-head on the same game board.
    • On “Go” one student in each line races to the cones and places a marker (bag) on top, then returns to their line. Only one marker can be placed on each cone, so use rock, paper, scissors if there’s a tie.
    • The next person may go once the person in front of them returns to the line and tag their hand
    •  Each team is attempting to place the marker on three consecutive cones to three in a row (tic-tac-toe).
    •  If all three markers have been used, the next student(s) to go are allowed to run down and move ONE of THEIR bags to an open cone.
    •  When a student (squad) wins, they must raise their hands overhead and declare “Tic-Tac-Toe, Three-In-A-Row!”
    • Rotate the lines every so often so that squads can compete against different teams.

Quarter 2, Week 5 (11/11/24 - 11/15/24)

Art

Hibler: Art K-3

  • Kinder: Students will learn about values and study Peter Brugel's work.  
  • 1st: Students will learn about facial features and how to draw them onto a face with accurate proportion.
  • 2nd: Students will finish sketching Matisse Still Life of Peonies in a Vase. 
  • 3rd: Students will practice shading skill by layering values. 

Welch: Art 3-6

  • 3rd Grade will be working on Matisse watercolors.
  • 4th Grade will be using oil pastels for their Cezanne pears.
  • 5th Grade will continue working on Durer's Rhino.
  • 6th Grade will be shading their grid drawing from various master artists.

  • Kinder
    • Students will describe what they do in the classroom in Spanish by observing, visualizing, and interpreting pages 104, 105, and 106 in the textbook. Then they will complete page 42 of the workbook
  • First Grade
    • Students will identify syllables and words with l, m, and p. They also will learn how to form syllables by observing, visualizing, and interpreting pages 92 and 93
  • Second Grade
    • Students will write sentences on a piece of paper using the vocabulary learned in previous lessons.

  • 3rd and 4th grades will:
    • learn to count to 100 in Latin
  • 5th and 6th grades will:
    • master genitive case forms (1st and 2nd declension) by filling in blanks with the correct noun/adjective ending or word

    • The students will learn to internalize fast/slow through kinesthetic activities.

This week we will begin our soccer unit. Kindergarten through Third grade will learn: 

  • how to execute different touches to manipulate the movements of a soccer ball. Students will properly execute a controlled pass.

Quarter 2, Week 4 (11/4/24-11/8/24)

Art

Hibler: Art K-3

  • Kinder artists will create fall leaves and watercolor on top of crayons to see wax-resist. 
  • 1st grade will work on using simple lines and shapes to create buildings. 
  • 2nd grade will study work by Vincent van Gogh and recreate a sketch of Sunflowers. 
  • 3rd grade artists will complete their replica sketch of John James Audubon's Common Troupial. 

Welch: Art 3-6

  • 3rd Grade will continue coloring their James Audubon pieces with colored pencils.
  • 4th Grade will begin using watercolor pencils for their Blue Horse paintings.
  • 5th Grade will add textures and patterns to their chameleon drawings.
  • 6th Grade will begin their unit on shading.

    • Students will identify singular and plural school supplies and provide information about how they are used by visualizing and interpreting pages 100 and 101 in the textbook through participation during question time.

    • Students will learn and identify different school yard games in Chile and in their own school by using the textbook and workbook to visualize and visually identify the context in which they are said. 
  • Second Grade
    • Students will continue learning about the days of the week and the activities they do, and they will also learn how to write sentences using the vocabulary learned by writing on their desks and visualizing and interpreting pages 102-103 in the textbook through participation.

    • learn Latin numbers 1-20 and how they relate to English and Spanish numbers

    • Objective: Class will attempt to move all the way across the field; they must do this by stepping inside the hula hoop given to them and once inside, passing the hoop up and over their head and placing it in front of them before stepping into the hoop again.
  • Discus Throw - Field Day Prep
    • Objective: To throw the discus using proper form as far as you can while remaining behind the throwing line.
  • Hula Hoop Relay - Field Day Prep
    • Objective: move the hula hoop around the circle of people (entire house/city-state) holding hands without breaking handholds
