Quarter 1, Week 3 (8/28-9/1)

Summary

A lot of new content is coming in week 3 in every subject! Check out the date for the Winter concert in Mrs. Balmer's update. Latin students are receiving their names this week. It's the season for volleyball in P.E.

Mrs. Balmer (Music: 3-5)

This week we added a new warm up to help us “make space in our face” when we sing. Ask your Scholar about their tall, round sounds. We also added to our knowledge about the Composer of the Month and the playlists have been expanded. 
 
This coming week, we will be working on music theory, and we will begin learning songs for our Winter Concert! I cannot tell you how excited I am about this event. Save the date! Friday, December 1st at Trinity Baptist Church. More details soon!

Warm Up Exercises

Miss Hibler (Art: K-2, 3A&B)

Kindergarten

Scholars are learning about lines and directions of lines: horizontal, vertical, and diagonal. Then they are beginning to practice identifying and drawing shapes.

Grades 1-3

Scholars are reviewing the Elements of Art and creating examples viewing Master images.

Mrs. Keller (Drama: 6)

Week 3 - Acting is Reacting, How to Decode Shakespeare

Dr. Lee (Latin: 3-6)

This week in all grades we are rolling out Latin names for each student and our first vocabulary lists and Latin Practice Logs. Be on the lookout later this week for an email from me about the Practice Logs. Be sure to ask you scholar about his or her Latin name!     

Sra. Puopolo (Spanish: K-2)

Kinder: Students will learn different phrases associated with waking up and going to sleep.
First: Students will learn vocabulary associated with the act of waking up and falling asleep.
Second: Students will learn different methods of transportation.

Miss Schosek (Music: K-2 & 6)

Listed below is a summary of what your K-2, 6th grade scholars will learn for week three:

Kindergarten:

-Develop tuneful singing.
-Develop beat and listening skills.
-Learn song repertoire.
-Learn facts and musical compositions about Johann Sebastian Bach.
-Begin learning Concert Song #1

1st Grade:

-Review the visual awareness and aural presentation of rhythm .
-Learn facts and musical compositions of Francois Couperin. 
-Begin learning Concert Song #1

2nd Grade:

-Review visual awareness and aural presentation of 2/4 meter.
-Learn facts and musical compositions of Domenico Scarlatti.
-Begin learning Concert Song #1 

6th Grade:

-Practice notating on the treble and bass clef.
-Practice singing in two-parts and rounds.
-Begin learning Concert Song #1

Coach Walsh (P.E.: K-2, 3C&D)

K and 1st grade scholars will be working on various locomotor movements around the gym with an exciting hula hoop car road trip.

2nd and 3rd grade scholars will be starting a volleyball unit. Students will practice the proper technique for the forearm pass, set, and underhand serve.

Mrs. Welch (Art: 3C&D, 4-6)

3rd Grade:  Students will be learning about and practicing contour and blind contour line drawing.
4th Grade:  Students will be practicing using basic shapes to draw objects.
5th Grade:  Students will be learning different ways to draw and color optical illusions.
6th Grade:  Students will be reviewing the seven Elements of Art. 

Coach Woods (P.E.: 3A&B, 4-6)

This week 3rd-6th graders will be doing volleyball.
