Quarter 3, Week 5 (2/5 - 2/9)

Summary

STAAR testing, Friendship Day, and Family Game Night. But the best thing of all, of course, are the Specials classes!

Mrs. Balmer (Music: 3-5)

Quarter 3, Week 5 brings new composers of the month and 4th grade beginning the study of hand chimes! All students are working on their aural skills to build up their inner hearing and music reading abilities. I will be out Wednesday-Friday this week attending the Texas Music Educators Association conference. I look forward to learning new techniques and activities to share with all my classes in the coming months.

Miss Hibler (Art: K-2, 3A&B)

K: Kindergartners will be introduced to still life art with Paul Cezanne’s work highlighted. 

1: Artists will finish their still life collages and begin a sketch. 

2: Second graders will begin practicing forms and shading/ blending techniques with colored pencils. 

3: Students will be drawing their choice of bird (Warbler/ Cardinal) as a replica of John James Audubon’s work.

Mr. Lucero (Drama: 6A & 6B)

Mr. Lucero is excited to be taking over Drama for the second semester. 6A and 6B are taking Drama this semester, culminating in performances of a Shakespeare play.

3rd, 4th

This week we finish our chapter 6 flashcards and start reading from Minimus chapter 6, where the family travels to Eboracum (York) for shopping. We have a new practice log that is due on 2/28 (B&D sections) or 2/29 (A&C sections).

5th

We are finishing the chapter 5 flashcards and beginning to read CLC chapter 5, wherein we learn about nominative plural forms and 3rd plural verbs. We have a new practice log that is due on 2/28 (B&D sections) or 2/29 (A&C sections).

6th

We are finishing the chapter 6 flashcards and beginning to read LL chapter 6, wherein we learn about some new prepositions and new uses for the Accusative and Ablative cases. We have a new practice log that is due on 2/28 (B&D sections) or 2/29 (A&C sections).

Sra. Puopolo (Spanish: K-2)

Kinder - Students will be able to identify, in other cultures and their own, places to go in a community to buy specific products.

First Grade - The students will be able to identify characteristics of other communities and their own.

Second Grade - Students will identify workers in their community and compare places where people go shopping in other communities and in their own.

Kindergarten: 

-Aurally analyze classroom songs with various rhythms. 
-Practice improvisation of high and low melodies.
-Learn facts and musical compositions about Beethoven. 
-Rehearse concert song #1 and #2. 

1st Grade: 

-Create a visual representation of strong and weak beats in duple meter.
-Practice improvising melodies that include la.
-Learn facts and musical compositions of Tchaikovsky. 
-Rehearse concert song #1 and #2. 

2nd Grade: 

-Learn to read a write the do pentatonic scale.
-Practice notating the pentatonic scale on the staff.
-Learn facts and musical compositions of Stephen Foster. 
-Rehearse concert song #1 and #2.

6th Grade: 

-Apply knowledge of the grand staff to learning the notes on the keyboard. 
-Perform rhythms containing quarter notes, quarter rests, eighth note pairs, and whole notes in 4/4 time signature.
-Practice sight reading rhythm with solfege from concert song #3. 
-Rehearse concert song #1 and #2.

K and 1st grade scholars will continue working on volleyballs skills. 

2nd grade scholars will work strategically with others on a team to practice offensive and defensive football skills. 

3rd grade scholars will begin Fitness Gram testing.

3rd: The students will continue to color a landscape w/colored pencils.

4th: The students will learn be learning to add different intensities of value using colored pencils.

5th: The students will replicate Georgia O’Keefe’s Sunflower using colored pencils.

6th:  The students will continue to draw and shade major project of drawing and shading chosen master sketch.
