Quarter 3, Week 6 (2/12-2/15)

Summary

No school on Friday, and next Monday is off for Presidents' Day.

Mrs. Balmer (Music: 3-5)

This week all classes are continuing to prepare for the Spring Concert on May 3rd. The concert will once again be at Trinity Baptist Church. 4th grade is having a great time learning hand chime techniques and is excited to perform on the concert! All classes are concentrating on proper vocal technique and tone quality. There will be small group singing quizzes over My Country ‘Tis of Thee on Thursday and Friday of this week so that I may get a better idea of individual singing progress. I look forward to welcoming those of you that have signed up to visit the class next week.

K- Kindergarteners will read The Magical Garden of Claude Monet and begin replica of the Japanese Bridge 

1-First grade will continue working on their self-portraits (adding color) 

2-Second grade will begin watercolor layers on their still life drawings 

3-Artists will be shading in the birds they have drawn with colored pencils. Shading to create texture.

Mr. Lucero is excited to be taking over Drama for the second semester. 6A and 6B are taking Drama this semester, culminating in performances of a Shakespeare play.

3rd, 4th

This week we finish reading Minimus chapter 6 and learn about the story of Actaeon and Diana. The practice log is due on 2/28 (B&D sections) or 2/29 (A&C sections).

5th

We finish Cambridge Latin Course chapter 5 this week and start learning 3rd declension endings. The practice log that is due on 2/28 (B&D sections) or 2/29 (A&C sections).

6th

We are continuing to read Lingua Latina chapter 6, learning about relative pronouns and clauses as well as distinct words for where (location), where from (origin), and where to (destination). The practice log that is due on 2/28 (B&D sections) or 2/29 (A&C sections).

Kinder - Students will be able to identify, in other cultures and their own, places to go in a community to buy specific products.

First Grade - The students will be able to identify characteristics of other communities and their own.

Second Grade - Students will identify workers in their community and compare places where people go shopping in other communities and in their own.

Kindergarten: 

-Aurally analyze classroom songs with various rhythms. 
-Practice improvisation of high and low melodies.
-Learn facts and musical compositions about Beethoven.

1st Grade: 

-Create a visual representation of strong and weak beats in duple meter.
-Practice improvising melodies that include la.

2nd Grade: 

-Learn to read a write the do pentatonic scale.
-Practice notating the pentatonic scale on the staff.

6th Grade: 

-Apply knowledge of the grand staff to learning the notes on the keyboard. 
-Perform rhythms containing quarter notes, quarter rests, eighth note pairs, and whole notes in 4/4 time signature.
-Practice sight reading rhythm with solfege from concert song #3. 
-Rehearse concert song #1 and #2.

K and 1st grade scholars will continue working on volleyballs skills. 

2nd grade scholars will work strategically with others on a team to practice offensive and defensive football skills. 

3rd grade scholars will begin Fitness Gram testing.

3rd: The students will learn about positive and negative art space.

4th: The students will learn be learning to add different intensities of value using colored pencils.

5th: The students will replicate Georgia O’Keefe’s Sunflower using colored pencils.

6th:  The students will continue to draw and shade major project of drawing and shading chosen master sketch.
